KYC has started again for the new year!

Projects:
-penpal letters between grade seven classes at different schools

-students will be from Killarney's feeder elementary schools
-students will be partnered with student of the same sex
-students will write bi-weekly
-KYC will hand off the letters
-the purpose of this is so students will have a friend from another soon upon entering highschool

-organizing Leadership 7

-it'll be similar to a preteen council, only the participants will learn leadership skills such as public speaking and whatnot. To be discussed.

There is a meeting this Saturday, January 19th. New members are welcome.
Meeting times are now at 3:30 pm every Saturday in the preschool room.

There will be no meeting next week because most members have either finals or provincials or both.  We'll have a meeting on the 23rd, the week before Hoopfest.

Posters were made this week.  One will be put up at Killarney, and the other, at the community centre.

Upcoming Events (these will be during the summer):

Summer Sizzler - we will be promoting Killarney Youth Council, hopefully recruiting new members!
Summer Pool Party - either an end-of-the-summer blast or a start-off-the-new-school-year-with-something-fun party.

Basketball Tournament--Hoopfest-- is on June 30th.  Time to be confirmed.
Next week, poster session at 4 PM.
Laurie - talk to Killarney P.E. teachers; type up registration form, send to Rose; talk to potential refs.
Adri - make announcement @ Killarney, talk to DT people about promotion.

Dota Tournament--is it happening?  Guys, call Rose.

The Pre-teen forum is cancelled.  There was a lack of interest by the students.

Everyone needs to start coming to the meetings again.
There was no meeting last week because we had the Vancouver Spectacular clean-up.

We have a meeting next week.

Is the DOTA tournament still happening?  It should.

Posters for the Video Game Tournament have been made at the last meeting.

Ongoing:
Books were sorted and re-taped.
We wrapped and decorated boxes for the cell phone drive.  Need 40 more phones!

Next meeting:
Make advertisements (flyers & posters) for Hoopfest.  We'll probably be painting so don't wear white.

Reminder:
Give forms to schools for the preteen forum.  Refer to previous entry to assigned schools.  Get forms from the youth office if you have not already done so.
